Mother is the final part of my trilogy of color pencil works made for DIVE festival’s exhibition, Roots. Finishing up the story with a direct connection to my life, I addressed the continuity between my great-grandmother, mother, and me. My great-grandmother died a few weeks before my birth. I find it touching that we both knew of each other, but only in the world of our imagination. I wanted to show her as leaving the world while I enter.
