Grandfather is the second part of my trilogy of color pencil works made for DIVE festival’s exhibition, Roots. Continuing the folklore-themed exploration of my family history, my grandfather can be seen with a Death-bird or Halálmadár at the end of his bed. He was quite a sickly child who spent his first 6 years in the hospital and who was expected to die early. His recovery was a miracle and I see his perseverance as an example and as inspiration. Death-bird/Halálmadár is the folk name for owls, they are birds that are seen as an omen of death in many European cultures.]
